You’ll Want to Stake a Claim After Visiting Homestead, Florida!

As you’d expect from a city at the southernmost tip of the panhandle in Florida, palm trees and exotic plant life litter the area of the city, along with other indigenous trees and foliage.  It is seated about 25 miles south of Miami.  Average temperatures sit at 75 degrees and most days are sunny.  Here you’ll discover eagles, Ibis, manatees and alligators, all situated in the wild.

Nestled just north of the Everglades National Park and northwest from Biscayne National Park, Homestead is a great place to homestead.  It is the second-oldest city in Florida, which gives it a lot of historical significance.  Points of interest include the cultural arts, tons of family activities and a nuclear generating station.  There is something for everyone here in Homestead.

If you want the rare experience of holding a baby alligator, you may do so under the watchful care of the Everglades Alligator Farm employees.  This alligator farm offers airboat rides, shows and the ability to see alligators in their natural habitat.  The Homestead-Miami Speedway hosts NASCAR, IndyCar and GrandAm series races, along with the Ford Championship Weekend.  Some say this facility is one of the most beautiful they’ve seen in the U.S., which reflects the Hispanic art deco district of Miami’s downtown area.

Coral Castle continues to befuddle historians, and it’s even been featured on Ripley’s Believe It or Not..  No one can figure out how the founder, Ed Leedskalnin, created the coral art that is displayed in this attraction.  The magnificent and breathtaking creations are an amazing sight, indeed.

No, Monkey Jungle is not a play area for kids.  It’s actually a 30-acre tropical jungle with real, live monkeys - all kinds of monkeys.  You’ll find a variety of species of primates like squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys, orangutans, howlers and gibbons.  Caution:  This attraction has the tendency to bring out the monkey in everyone!

ArtSouth, a 3.5 acre cultural arts center, is located in the historic downtown district of Homestead..  Along with numerous exhibitions, the center provides the professional artist community with studios available for rent.  The Homestead Rodeo hosts competitions for bull riding, calf-roping and all the rodeo accoutrements.  The Fruit and Spice Park provides a living exhibit of the world’s tropical agriculture.  The botanical garden exhibit covers 37 acres and showcases a bounty of luscious living varieties of botanical beauties.

Of course, the remainder of Homestead’s attractions are just as noteworthy - the Homestead Air Reserve Base, the Turkey Point Nuclear Generating Station and the Everglades National Park.  All great additions to this strategically located Floridian city.

Homestead affords the benefits of a small town with a close knit community, along with the amenities of a much bigger city with all the local attractions.  And the real estate deals are nothing to shake a stick at, either.  With plenty of single-homes, townhomes, condos and apartments available, there’s room to settle in and hunker down no matter how large or small your family is.
